Hello, Pearre Creek Panthers! I am Perry Wayne Higgins.
I graduated from the University of Arizona in 1992 with a BA in
Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education.
I taught for 3 years in Arizona in 2nd and
Then, my wife and I decided to move along with our new son,
David, to Tennessee (away from all of our family) so she could
pursue her dreams on being a Gospel songwriter.
In Tennessee, I worked in Cheatham County Schools as a 6th grade
behavior specialist and a Multi-age teacher for 8,9, and 10 year
olds. During this time, my daughter, Bethany was born.
I moved to Williamson County Schools and taught in Fairview
Elementary for 13 years as a 1st grade
teacher and a 5th grade
teacher. During that time, I received my Master of
Education degree from Tennessee State University.
I then became an Assistant Principal at Overbrook School for two
years, but decided that I missed working daily with students to
help them achieve their dreams, so I have returned to teaching
and am now a 5thgrade teacher at the greatest school
I’ve ever been involved with.
My wife, Billy Jo, is
currently the manager of the Dickson County Humane Society. She
has only written one song since coming to Tennessee,
My son, David, is 19
years old and is a college sophomore at Christian Brothers
University in Memphis, playing collegiate soccer and working on
a law degree. My daughter, Bethany, is 17 years old and is a
senior at St. Cecilia Academy in Nashville. We have 3 dogs and 2
cats and our house is busy all the time!
I love children. I love being involved with children.
I love helping children achieve. I love all the wondrous
things children can do. I am glad I am back in the
classroom in a big way! I have been in education for 20
years and I am so excited for my 21st year
here at Pearre Creek Elementary!
